The WRAF was disbanded in 1919 and had to

be recreated as the Women’s Auxiliary Air

Force at the outbreak of World War II. The

involvement of women in the armed services

during the First World War was limited and

short lived but it was important. A change

in social attitudes, recognising that women

could have a role to play outside the home

and children, was underway.
